MTB around Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is a college town, youthful and friendly, one of the towns we liked best. It feels utterly Californian, perhaps in a stereotypical way, with surfers, boardwalks, and splendid singletrack. We spent a couple of days in a motel riding in the main mountainbike area Wilder Ranch. The trails vary from fast winding trails to really gnarly technically challenging. In August one tends to prefer those that are in the shade under a dense tree panoply.

There is an excellent map available on line, on the www-pages of Santa Cruz State Parks.
